Tiny Raccoon Furred and My New Ugly Glasses

One down, two to go! I think this guy is the smallest of the three (3/4 inch to the tip of his ears). For the photos, I included my ugly reading glasses I bought at the drugstore recently. I could tell my eyes seemed to be getting worse since I've been making these little guys, and I finally broke down and bought a pair of cheapo glasses. WOW though! What a difference! Crap, I'm getting old! LOL

  1. Take good care of your eyes!!!
I started with glasses of +1.5 at age 40 and...
at 59 I'm working the porcelain (dolls) with glasses of +3.5 and also a magnifying glass +5!
From my experience of a lifetime making miniatures I think it's best to start working with a good magnifying glass to not force the vision.
    Great little hugs!!!

  2. Yes Kristy, it happens to the best of us, I wear one of those wrap-around magnifying lenses to do my minis, the same as porcelain doll makers wear. It's amazing how much more detail you can see. Your tiny racoon looks even more beautiful now.

  5. I just love your little racoon, he is absolutely adorable. Yes and take care of your eyes, I do a lot of miniature embroidery and it sure takes it's toll, so the less straining our eyes the better for our future in making mini's.

  6. Hehe, +2 already? Luckily I am short sighted. This means I don't need glasses to see up close. It kind of even out I think. I am staring at your gorgeous raccoon without glasses and he is one handsome devil!

  13. Welcome to the club. Without my glasses I would be lost, when it comes to minis.... I have 3 different glasses. One for reading (and minis), one for the computer and the third for driving without getting in touch with pedestrians etc.
And with my computerglasses I see, that you made again a wonderful little critter. Love to see the two other rascals soon. Andrea

  14. Hey thanks guys!
Sans, yes they are a +2 already (pfffffttt!!!). I didn't know so I just grabbed one with a number in the middle (they had 1.25 through 3) LOL
Andrea, LMAO, I'm sure it won't be long before I'll need three pairs of glasses as well if I keep this up.
Margaret, your wrap around magnifying glass thing sounds like a good idea. I'm going to Google around for something like that.
Thanks everyone for your sweet compliments on the little raccoon and for your concern for my eyes. I'll try to take care of my eyes but not really sure how other than spending less time on making minis and less time on the computer (um...that's not gonna happen, LOL)!

  15. Kristy! OMG....he is so precious and you have furred him perfectly!!! I can't believe how tiny he is! I work with jeweler's magnifiers on......LOL......that includes my glasses that I wear too! Part of the aging process! It is so much fun to really see everything up close though! I love inspecting my miniatures!! LOL

  16. Little racoon is perfect!!
Glasses - I'm severely short-sighted, and for the past ten years I've had great long vision with my contact lenses, but now have to use reading glasses as well for close up and reading - with minis that's aaalll the time!
The best thing about being very short-sighted is that without my lenses in I can focus on objects up close really, really well, like I have an in-built magnifier.

  19. I, too, bought a pair of readers for my needlepoint...but often use them for other minis (and non-mini) things. Ah, well! :] Love the raccoon...always adorable.

  20. Like they all said, taking care of your eyes is top priority... and it's a good thing that those glasses made a difference. And that raccoon is really cute. LOL.
